Japan Iron Man Retires @ 81

Japanese marathon runner who used Kettlebell and competed at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki has finally called it quits at the age of 81.After taking part in three marathons this year Keizo Yamada has decided it is time to scale back his activities and retire from competitive running.

Yamada, who won the Boston Marathon in 1953, bade farewell to Boston in April when he ran the event for the 19th time, a month after completing the Tokyo Marathon in a time of five hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds.  Yamada, known as ‘Iron Man’, will continue with his daily 20km jogs but told Sunday’s Sports Hochi newspaper “I’m not getting any younger so I won’t run any more 42km (26 mile) races”.

“I will carry on running for fun to stay in shape,” he added.

Yamada was one of the pioneers of Japanese marathon running, along with Shigeki Tanaka and Hideo Hamamura, who won in Boston in 1951 and 1955 respectively.

Kokichi Tsuburaya put the sport on the map in Japan by taking bronze in the men’s marathon at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.  Japan’s women have had more success than their male counterparts in recent years, with Naoko Takahashi capturing gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and Mizuki Noguchi winning the 2004 title in Athens.

Ruby Grapes

If you think Orlando vacations are expensive.. think about this bunch of ruby grapes at $2,250 auction off to a restuarant owner in Ishikawa Prefecture who hoped that the news reports about the auction would give some attention to his business.  Crazy as it may sound.. this is Japan you are talking about ..  and the Japanese do love their premium fruits.. !!   So fruits or vacation..?? i’ll choose a vacation anytime.  Hahahah!!

Japanese Are Best Tourist

The study by travel company Expedia asked 4,500 hotels worldwide to rank tourists on their behaviour.

Japanese tourists – seen as clean and tidy, polite, quiet and uncomplaining – came top for the third year running.

French travellers made amends on elegance – classed third – as well as for their discretion and cleanliness.

Rock On Mt Fuji Kills Man

The boulder, about a meter in diameter, reportedly hit the campervan shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday, crashing through the vehicle’s roof.

The accident occurred at the highest parking lot on the Shizuoka side of Mount Fuji, located at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters. The trails between the ninth station and the mountain’s summit were closed due to remaining snow, but were reopened at midnight on Tuesday.

Make your own rice cake soup and no need for any fat burner because it is all healthy and good. Pretty easy to make as you can see .. and the explanatiion is in english .. so everyone can make their own Japanese rice cake soup anytime they want and best during winter.. when the weather is cold and you don’t know what to eat.

Special Summer Kit Kat

Gotta love the Japanese.. !!! one cannot get flavored kit kat here in the west but in Japan.. you get all sorts.l. according to its season. I’ve tried the cherry blossom ones.. and the green tea as well.  I can’t wait to get a hold of this one.

Street Stalls In Japan

Street stalls are aplenty in Japan and the one that I really liked was at Gion Matsuri, plenty of different stalls and plenty of amusement here.  The apple store was fun to watch when they showed us how they made these sweet apples.  The second picture that I took of these street stalls in Japan also known as “yatai” in Japanese were great for use as greeting cards .  Pretty innovative if you asked me.

A closer look at the sweet apple made of hot and red thick syrup with very fresh apples.  For those who are not aware of it, the Japanese pride themselves in their quality of food, so you can expect the best apples here.  The syrup turns hard after a while and they are very sweet, not great for diabetics .. but it sure will keep the kids busy.  It’s not cheap either at about 300 yen for an apple.

Here is a noodle store, it was hot for sure..! the guy frying the noodles was very sweaty .. hope he didn’t give more ingredients than he should eh.

Japanese hotdogs anyone..?? pretty yummy.. but i can’t finished it.. the guys at the store was very friendly too.  I think all these pictures make good greeting cards if you asked me.  And I do try and send some really unique ones.. whenever i am on vacation.

Keisei Skyliner

A girlfriend of mine who is on holiday in Japan at this very moment while i am typing this, wrote me an email to ask if there was anyway she can get around to the airport without paying an arm and a leg.  Interesting i said.. but you know, a lot of ppl are gonna be like her and think that the only transport is a cab or a pre-arranged limo.

But truth be told, the cheapest way to the airport is the Keisei Skyliner.  It is not only reliable.. it is fast and very comfy and most importantly, you don’t have to pay thru’ your newborn.  Check for the airport express that leaves from the central of Tokyo to Narita airport on a daily basis.

The Skyliner & Metro Pass is a convenient and valuable pass that allows you to ride the Skyliner connecting Narita Airport and central Tokyo once, and to use all of the Tokyo Metro lines as many times as you like for one or two consecutive days at a reduced cost.
